The 8051 microcontroller's pin diagram looks like this:

  • Pins 1 through 8 are referred to as Port 1; they are an internally pulled-up, bi-directional I/O port with no other uses.
  • Pin 9 is referred to as RESET; it is used to reset the microcontroller to its initial settings.
  • Pins 10 through 17 are referred to as Port 3. This port has various uses, including interrupts, timer input, control signals, and serial communication signals RxD and TxD.
  • ports 18 and 19: An external crystal can be interfaced to obtain the system clock via these ports.
  • Pin 20: This pin supplies the circuit with power.
  • Pins 21 through 28 − These pins are referred to as Port 2, which is used for multiplexing higher order address bus signals in addition to being an I/O port.
  • Pin 29 is designated as the Program Store Enable (PSEN) pin, and it is used to read signals from the external program memory.
  • Pin 30: This pin, known as the External Access input (EA pin) is used to activate and deactivate the external memory interface.
  • Pin 31: The Address Latch Enable (ALE) pin is utilized to demultiplex the port's address-data signal.
  • Pins 32 through 39 − These pins are referred to as Port 0, which is an I/O port used for multiplexing data bus and lower order address signals.
  • Pin 40: The circuit is power supply is supplied by this pin.
